Danny and Rachel's different perspectives

In Kindergarten at our school, the kids learn site words by taking a test on 25 words at a time. Then they earn a dog tag for each set of 25 words, up to 200 words. Danny did it last year and only he and one girl earned all eight dog tags by the end of the year. Both he and the girl never missed a week, they passed and moved on to the next set of words every time.

Now Rachel is working on earning her dog tags. She's earned three so far. But she missed one week because she said come when the word was came. She was ok with that and worked harder the next week. But there's one boy in her class named Aaron who hasn't missed a week yet and is one dog tag ahead of Rachel. Last week when they came home from school on the day of testing Danny asked Rachel if she passed. She did. Then he asked if Aaron passed. She didn't know. Then Danny said, "Maybe he missed it and then you'll catch up to him!" Rachel replied that she didn't want Aaron to mess up, she wanted him to do well also. Danny didn't quite get her mentality. He's always well aware of how far ahead of the other kids he is. While Rachel is happy for everyone to do well even if she isn't first.
