In Kindergarten at our school, the kids learn site words by taking a test on 25 words at a time. Then they earn a dog tag for each set of 25 words, up to 200 words. Danny did it last year and only he and one girl earned all eight dog tags by the end of the year. Both he and the girl never missed a week, they passed and moved on to the next set of words every time.
Now Rachel is working on earning her dog tags. She's earned three so far. But she missed one week because she said come when the word was came. She was ok with that and worked harder the next week. But there's one boy in her class named Aaron who hasn't missed a week yet and is one dog tag ahead of Rachel. Last week when they came home from school on the day of testing Danny asked Rachel if she passed. She did. Then he asked if Aaron passed. She didn't know. Then Danny said, "Maybe he missed it and then you'll catch up to him!" Rachel replied that she didn't want Aaron to mess up, she wanted him to do well also. Danny didn't quite get her mentality. He's always well aware of how far ahead of the other kids he is. While Rachel is happy for everyone to do well even if she isn't first.

The Week in Review
Here's Seth working out the neck muscles:

One boy in a box seat (we have nice neighbors) at the Mountain West Conference Basketball Championship game (stinkin' utes won). Danny didn't want to go until I told him that I would get him a Sprite. He was all for going after I promised him a tasty beverage. Boys.

Rachel Loses Her First Tooth
This girl is brave. She had been asking me for days to pull her tooth, but I would talk her out of it figuring that the tooth wasn't ready to pop. Finally I gave in the other night and offered to remove her first tooth. I remember my dad offered the same services when I was 7 or 8 but I was too afraid to take him up on it.
She came and woke us up in the middle of the night. She stood by the side of the bed flashing a big grin and waving her two dollars and a note from the tooth fairy telling her how brave she was and that she did a great job.
She now joins the elite company of Danny 'The Nearly Toothless Wonder' and Seth 'The Totally Toothless Wonder'. I wonder if Aaron feels left out?

Sunday - Through the Eyes of Rachel
Not Gonna Tell You
Aaron will do well as a parent. When his children began to ask him questions that he might not know the answer to, he will at least be able to respond by using the indefinite delay tactic of saying "Not gonna tell you."
Lately, he's been getting a lot practice with this technique. See for yourselves. . .

Aaron's school
I do some little preschool lessons with Aaron a couple days a week. Last week we learned about Native Americans. The lesson went over really well. We made some Indian Fry Bread as part of the lesson. Danny and Rachel even wanted to get in on the fun.
